Barondess, Joseph
(1867-1928)
   American labour and communal leader. Born in the Ukraine, he emigrated to New York in 1888. He helped lead the cloakmakers' strike in 1890 and was sentenced to imprisonment as a result. He was active in the Socialist Labour Party and later in the Zionist movement. He was a founder of the American Jewish Congress and a member of the American Jewish delegation to the Versailles peace talks in 1919.
